Are you a watercolor enthusiast
with at least beginner's experience? This summer, I am offering a course for lovers of watercolor.
You will enjoy this course whether you're just past the beginner stage or considerably experienced.
You will need an interest in art history and painters throughout the ages who made a mark
and expanded the usage and understanding of watercolor.
Watercolor Through History is an interesting and challenging course of eight lessons.
Each lesson provides a watercolor assignment with a video demo and instructional guidance.
Each assignment is accompanied by a slide show, an informal lecture, links to artists,
their watercolor work and milieu.
Our course includes a private website plus an assignment page
to which you'll email photos of your completed assignments and can view your course mate's assignments, too.
We meet by phone nine times during the summer
including an initial call for orientation the day after the first assignment is posted.
No Zoom is involved. You'll never have to appear on camera.
We each chat and listen on the phone while looking at assignments, lessons and links on our computer screens.
During our phone meetings, I offer constructive feedback for each posted assignment
and discuss the various topics connected to the current assignment
including issues of color, paint, brushes and paper.
The learning experience is personable, safe, supportive, challenging and entertaining.
Classes are capped at six students so this is as close to private lessons as you can get
but better because you have colleagues to help give your own work context.
Your colleagues (and I!) will be incredibly supportive of your work.
You'll get to know each other through your art work and voices.
It's wonderful for me to watch our relationships grow.
On a personal note, I LOVE teaching this course because I love watercolor and history a
and teaching and developing myself and others as artists and human beings in the stream of time.
I also love teaching this because the scholarship and the online resources continue to develop almost daily a
and I love sharing my own discoveries with students through courses.
This is all about learning and personal development, not about competition or "perfection".
